Pups almost one week old!

What a busy week!  Although all the puppies do is sleep and nurse....
Behind the scenes is busy!  Whitney is eating tons... baked chicken,  ground beef, goat milk,  yogurt. ....she has eaten 2 whole chickens,  3 quarts of yogurt,  a few pounds of ground beef,  and 3 quarts of goat milk in one week!
She wants out of the nursery a lot,  especially in the middle of the night,  then realizes she wants back in!  I sleep with a baby monitor and get up all night to let her in and out and check on whining puppies. Sometimes they get separated from the pack and can't get back to the heating pad or find Whitney.  The pups cannot regulate their own body temperature until 3 weeks of age so we have to keep the whelping box and the nursery at a constant 85 degrees so that they don't get chilled or overheated. We weigh them every day to make sure they are gaining weight.
I have tons more pics on my good camera which I will try to down load soon.

  1. Who's the gorgeous kid? He ought to be in the movies....And who knew how much a nursing dog could eat! Amazing.

  2. Wow, this is just SO amazing ... great job Karen! I can't tell you how excited I am. Off and on throughout my days I feel this undercurrent of joy that keeps popping up in ripples of deep connection with this litter. Whitney looks so GREAT! What a doll. Hard to believe how much she can eat right now!! And Sandy is so proud. Thank you for sharing this experience with us.
